한흑구

韓黑鷗, Han Heuk Goo; born 한세광 (韓世光) Han Se Kwang

A writer and translator, Han was born 1909 in Pyeongyang and studied abroad in the U.S. starting 1929, earning a degree in English Literature at North Park University in Chicago. He then went on to study journalism at Temple University in Philadelphia until his return to Korea in 1934, upon which he established two literary magazines, Pacific『대평양 』 and Baekgwang『백광』and wrote for several others. He is the first identified Korean translator of Black American poetry and was at one point known to be involved with the Young Korean Academy, an independence movement organization.
