A novelist and literary critic, Han was a prolific member and later co-director of the KAPF (Korean Artist Proletarian Federation). He studied abroad in the Sociology department at Nihon University, graduating 1924. Upon his return to Korea and subsequent arrest and release for his activities with KAPF the same year, he became well-known for his novels 『그릇된 동경(瞳暻)』 (1927) and 『과도기 過渡期』 (1929), serialized in the Donga Ilbo.

Throughout January 1934, he published a series of 12 comprehensive articles in the Chosun Ilbo concerning the history of Black American literature and scholarly thought. His commentary predominantly featured translated excerpts and discussion of the Harlem Renaissance poets Langston Hughes, Countee Cullen, and Gwendolyn B. Bennett, and Claude McKay, with brief mentions of other notable Harlem Renaissance writers and other intellectuals, including W.E.B. Du Bois, Booker T. Washington, and [Marcus Garvey]. He is known to have passed some time in the 1960s in the DPRK.
