A hobbyist magazine published by 김동환 (金東煥, Kim Dong Hwan), it featured a variety of topics spanning from literature to current events to “gossip”(interestingly, some of this gossip would contain short, informal interviews with literary scholars, some of which discussed Black literature. Vol. 9 ran a featurette in which the scholar 정인섭 briefly discussed the Harlem Renaissance as a Black poets’ movement, praising Countee Cullen’s work as an editor on Opportunity as as his own books of poetry, whilst 김억 commented in vol. 6, issue 9 that “whilst the literature of Black Americans provokes intrigue, a great work or great writer of Black American Literature seems yet to have emerged.” the two excerpts can be found here: 삼천리 - interviews.). Initially a pro-Korean publication, it increasingly turned pro-empire after its conformist turn in 1937.
